TREMPLIN JEUNES TALENTS (YOUNG TALENT SPRINGBOARD) 2018 WINNERS

Bound by both friendship and their common passion for music, pianist Michaël Vigneron, bassist Benjamin Clément and drummer Simon Prudhomme met in Rennes in 2016 and created the acoustic and electric trio “White From Black”. Influenced by a multitude of genres, from jazz to hip-hop via rock and electro music, they recorded their first EP titled “Where Is Africa” and performed on the “Jeunes & Jazz” (Young & Jazz) stage the following year. In 2018, the consistency and uniqueness of the trio’s sound seduced the Young Talent Springboard jury, who crowned them as the winners of a solid boost in the distribution and professionalization of their work.  White From Black’s first album will be released in the fall of 2019.

Biréli Lagrène lives for music and has been swinging with his guitar for almost half-a-century. Since the release of his first album when he was fourteen, Django Reinhardt’s most brilliant successor hasn’t stopped touring the world, collaborating with the crème de la crème (John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucia, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius...) and meeting with success. With his touch, as delicate as a flower, and his brilliant virtuosity, he can get away with anything: light harmonics, unexpected chords, unreal notes. Biréli plays with everything imaginable and remains an insatiable music storyteller. For his new album, “Storyteller”, released in November 2018 by Naïve, he chose to tell entirely new tales. Its tracks carry us away to unprecedented destinations, in the company of a magician of tones and sounds, percussionist Mino Cinelu (who crossed paths with Herbie Hancock, Al DiMeola, Sting, Lou Reed…) and bass player Chris Minh Doky who has been enthralling audiences for more than twenty years with his technique, his creativity and his unbridled energy.

A true musical enchantment is what Biréli Lagrène has in store for us on this exceptional night at the Grand Ampitheater of the Université d’Assas.
