The Lady of the Gardenias, also known as "Lady Day", died in 1959, leaving behind magnificent albums such as "Lady In Satin" and "Billie Holiday", as well as "Strange Fruit", her first big hit, a poignant song denouncing the lynchings suffered by many African-Americans in the South of the United States at that time.
