CÉLIA WA : It is from the gwoka that come the energy and the futuristic inspirations of the singer and flutist Celia Wa, fist raised, proud of her roots and her Guadeloupean identity.
Born in Paris, Celia Wa grew up in Guadeloupe and began music with the Ka, the traditional percussion which is the musical soul of the island, at the school of the great Georges Troupé, before devoting herself to the flute. Back in Paris, she immersed herself in hip hop culture, especially dance, before returning to music – Expeka Trio, David Walters... – . She recently recorded for the Heveanly Sweetness label two totally original EPs mixing electronic music and traditional West Indian music (Gwoka), with production by Victor Vagh (producer of Flavia Coelho). Discovered on the Tamanoir stage with David Walters last October, she will be back at the Tamanoir in January for her residency with her twirling flute, her futuristic universe stirring up the groove, and texts that revive the burning memory of Guadeloupe.
