At the end of the 1950s, Brazilian music was shaken by a musical wave that transformed it forever. João Gilberto is the figurehead of the so-called Bossa-Nova current, characterized by his new way of playing and singing traditional Samba. New compositions have also rejuvenated the repertoire of Brazilian songs mainly thanks to the poetry of Vinicius de Moraes, the melodies of Antonio Carlos Jobim and the Afro Sambas of Baden Powell.
