Leader of the avant-garde movement in the 1960s, John Coltrane is today considered one of the most revolutionary and influential saxophonists in the history of jazz. As an explorer of new timbres, harmonies and sounds, Coltrane expanded the conception of the saxophone's musical capabilities. His music is at once improvised, personal and dynamic, making him one of the major figures in jazz.
