A Contrario

The A Contrario duo is an oxymoron… the merging of two very different yet complementary worlds. These two women’s hearts beat to the tune of their Mediterranean ancestry – gypsy for one, Sicilian for the other. Sandrine Deschamps is a jazz singer and Marie Christine D’Acqui is a classical double bass player. They met at the crossroads of their professional interests and cultural backgrounds. They invite us to discover new pathways, far from stereotypical styles, where improvisation meets emotion. In this recording, they found themselves dancing around the feminine archetype by telling us life stories. Straightforward and heartfelt, their expression and sound are unique. The diversity of their repertoire magically coalesces into a coherent whole.
