Jam Session Hosted By Caloé- Abbey Lincoln Tribute
#PlaceAuxJeunes
"I'm not a jazz singer," she said. Jazz is an insult. It's an obscene, insulting word to me. I'm a black artist. My name is Abbey Lincoln. Nothing else.
Alongside her fellow musicians, Charlie Mingus, John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman, Abbey Lincoln was acclaimed and recognized as a jazz singer in spite of herself. Sometimes compared to Billie Holiday, she confirmed this filiation in 1987 with a tribute album, "Abbey Sings Billie".
Caloé sings and composes, writing lyrics and music, making vocal improvisation her playground. Whether interpreting the melodies she revisits or resorting to "scat", which she has worked long and hard to master in her own way, she has made improvisation one of her major assets. Her generous stage presence, soft timbre and vocal technique make Caloé one of the most active singers on the French jazz scene.
Her first album, "Saisons", released in 2020 on the Ouest label, is full of poetry. The lyrics of her songs, in French and English, blend with eclectic jazz rich in her multiple influences.
"Very fine vocal technique, we can only praise Caloé." Albert Algoud for Le Canard Enchaîné
Since 2018, the singer has been plying the Baiser Salé stage for summer jams and hosting the Sunday jams once a month, evenings geared towards young talent. A one-hour concert that sets the tone, then it's time for the JAM!
