Grecofuturism

A project initiated by Monika Kabasele, a young singer of Greek-Congolese origin, GRECOFUTURISM blends the rhythms of rumba and tsifteteli with the traditional melodies of both cultures, rearranged in a contemporary tonal or modal jazz context. Grecofuturism is inspired by Afrofuturism, which explores the marriage between the culture of the African diaspora and science and technology. In this context, the neologism Grecofuturism describes the search for a mixed identity that takes shape through the fusion of these two musical traditions. The aim here is not to replay these musical genres, but to create a bridge between the two, a sound that expresses the present.
