Contrefaçons

Counterfeit: an illicit imitation of a work or object. In the Middle Ages, it also referred to the deformed and extraordinary appearance of an animal. The Contrefaçons jazz quintet's original music is inspired as much by the fantasy and inventiveness of classical music as by the energy and spontaneity of the jazz quintets of Miles Davis, Dave Holland and Wynton Marsalis. The group's compositions and arrangements find their originality in the imitation and transformation of tradition, between creation and counterfeiting.
