With Straight Outta Palmer (to Bordeaux via Lormont rugby, roots DRC), Roger Kemp Biwandu signs a return to his roots. He chooses a title that sums up his life and his passions, presents an album that illustrates his artistic journey, and plays in the Palmer district of his beginnings. For this live performance in quintet formation, the sharp drummer (he has played with Higelin, I Muvrini, Joe Zawinul, Salif Keita…) brings together his close friends and family. And delivers a delightful set of this album which, says Manu Katché, “subtly offers a musical return to past years when groove, swing and performance were essential. Through his compositions, we find ourselves in the very heart of the seventies, on the eastern side of North America, thanks to an elegant rereading of this timeless musical heritage.
