Counterfeit: the illicit imitation of a work or object. In the Middle Ages, it also referred to the deformed and extraordinary appearance of an animal.
The jazz quintet Contrefaçons offers original music, inspired as much by the fantasy and inventiveness of classical music as by the energy and spontaneity of the jazz quintets of Miles Davis, Dave Holland and Wynton Marsalis.
The band's compositions and covers find their originality in the imitation and transformation of tradition, between creation and counterfeiting.
