The quartet's music is rooted in the musical traditions of North Africa, North American and Latin American jazz, and French musical culture.
Saxophonist Illyes Ferfera draws his inspiration from the traditional music and rhythms of his native Algeria. To this are added influences from Moroccan Gnawa, the Raï of Cheikha Rimitti, and jazz. And finally, there's his roots in European and French culture.
In Arabic, Tawazûn means balance. This quest for balance, whether personal, aesthetic or musical, is at the heart of their repertoire and of an album currently in production.
