Choro is a popular Brazilian instrumental music that originated in Rio de Janeiro in the second half of the 19th century, and continues to be played today, not only in its hometown but in all the major cities of Brazil. As a national musical style, choro predates samba and bossa nova, of which it is one of the sources.
