Wakan

Wakan is a trio resolutely dedicated to the creation of an original, contemporary repertoire. Francesca Han, a rising star on the jazz piano scene from Korea and New York, meets Pierre Fenichel and Fred Pasqua, driven by a natural desire to play music without frills, and to offer a direct transmission of emotions. The listener is immediately gripped by the melodic lines and obvious, familiar compositions. The three musicians, all of whom have accomplished international careers, immediately found a common language that revisits the queen of jazz formations: the piano-bass-drums trio favored by Bill Evans, Ahmad Jamal and Keith Jarrett. They continue to explore freely. With her dual classical and jazz culture, and a career that spans Seoul and New York, Francesca Han is a surprisingly singular presence on the contemporary jazz scene. Fred Pasqua, a drummer from the south of France, is one of the most sought-after musicians in France, and Pierre Fenichel accompanies some magnificent projects alongside Cecile Mac Lorin Salvant, Raphaël Imbert, Anne Paceo... For many years, Pierre Fenichel and Fred Pasqua have formed a tight, free rhythm section.
