"Smile!" the photographer called out to the children lined up in the courtyard. They all froze in a forced smile, while young Cyril closed his eyes, like an artist dreaming of freedom.
The trombonist and composer is determined not to get bogged down in imposed expressions, defying the routine of jazz standards to create unexpected climates, suspended moments and new textures.
Diving into Cyril's whimsical universe, we discover Louis Armstrong sitting at a café table, smiling at Duke Ellington as he tells him a story. Next door, Clark Terry and J. J. Johnson are chatting. Suddenly, from the back of the room, musical notes stand out against the clatter of clinking glasses: it's Ahmad Jamal and his trio performing Poinciana.
The influences of these giants intersect under the pen of Cyril Galamini to give birth to a fresh, personal music with a singular blend of timbres, rooted in the tradition of elegant, refined, mischievous... and smiling jazz.
