ECM RECORD RELEASE “UNFOLDING

Since the creation of its Jazz season, ECUJE has had the privilege and pleasure of taking part in the Festival Jazz sur Seine, a flagship event on the Paris music scene, which marks the start of the musical season in the capital.

The 2024 edition of the Festival Jazz sur Seine will be no exception, hosting the opening concert of the #4 season of Jazz à l'ECUJE, on Monday October 12, 2024, with two emblematic figures of contemporary jazz: clarinetist Louis Sclavis and pianist Benjamin Moussay. These two artists, renowned for their creativity and musical audacity, have chosen Jazz à l'ECUJE for the release of their album “Unfold” on ECM.

This opening concert is already shaping up to be a highlight of the Festival Jazz sur Seine 2024 and of our Jazz à l'ECUJE season!

Already partners on numerous discs released by Louis Sclavis on the celebrated ECM label headed by Manfred Eicher - most recently Characters On A Wall - clarinettist and pianist Benjamin Moussay have considerably developed their complicity and sense of interplay in recent years, successfully multiplying their concerts all over Europe.

In this new recording, with a program consisting entirely of original themes (2/3 composed by the pianist, the final third by the clarinettist), the French duo imagine a world of intimate conversations on the fringes of chamber music, juxtaposing contemplative sequences of intense lyricism with much more whimsical moments, highlighting the joyful complicity at the heart of their collaboration.

Always highly focused, the duo conjures up intense, warm improvisations from delicate themes, never overflowing but patiently exploring the potential of the written material in fluid dialogues of rare creativity.

Louis Sclavis – clarinet, bass clarinet
Benjamin Moussay – piano
