#Placeauxjeunes La Jamdudimanche De Ronan Ristord
TRIBUTE TO BUD POWELL
The "Jam du Dimanche" is a friendly gathering where musicians come together to improvise. This weekly session offers a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for experimentation and spontaneous musical creation!
A disciple of the legendary Gregory Hutchinson, Ronan Ristord is the drummer of the moment. A Berklee College of Music alumnus and a highly regarded sideman on the Paris jazz scene, he is now stepping into the spotlight as a leader. His music is deeply rooted in swing and jazz standards, yet always honors what makes this art form so beautiful: improvisation!
Bud Powell, born Earl Rudolph Powell on September 27, 1924, in Harlem, New York, is one of the most influential pianists in modern jazz. A pioneer of bebop piano, he played a key role in transforming jazz piano by adapting the innovations of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie.
Powell grew up in a rich musical environment and began playing in Harlem clubs as a teenager. His talent quickly brought him into contact with jazz giants like Thelonious Monk, who became a mentor to him. In the 1940s and 1950s, he recorded several landmark albums for Blue Note and Verve, including "The Amazing Bud Powell" and "Bud Powell in Paris," which are now considered bebop classics.
Despite a career marked by mental health issues, Bud Powell continued to play and record, leaving behind an immense musical legacy. His compositions like "Un Poco Loco" and "Bouncing with Bud" have become jazz standards. Passing away on July 31, 1966, in New York, Powell remains a towering figure for all jazz pianists, and his influence is still felt in contemporary jazz.
