The grand master of the kora Ablaye Cissoko dialogues with Cyrille Brotto, maestro of the diatonic accordion on delicate and harmonious compositions. A spiritual journey on the traces of the spleen of the uprooted.
Griot from father to son living in St Louis-du-Sénégal, Ablaye Cissoko embodies the meeting between Mandingo traditions and contemporary creation. Since the release of his first album in 2003, he has not only established himself as one of the best kora players but also as a man of encounters, recording sometimes with the German trumpeter Volker Goetze, sometimes with the Canadian ensemble Constantinople or with the group African Jazz Roots, fruit of a meeting with Sophia Domancich and Simon Goubert.
It is with the accordionist Cyrille Brotto that he continues his musical exploration. With singing and kora, he establishes a sensitive conversation in a universal waltz between their two instruments. Halfway between the harp and the lute, the kora spreads out in harmonics while the accordion improvises its choruses. The Franco-Senegalese duo thus takes us on an intimate journey to which the velvety voice of Ablaye Cissoko adds an airy touch.
"Music to empty the mind and inspire the senses..."
