In the Manding languages of West Africa, Balimaya means “kinship”, “brotherhood”. A family in the broad sense that is expressed here, gathered around a duo of percussionists formed by Julien André and Ibrahima Diabaté, mixing djembe, dundun and drums. Balimaya feeds on Manding rhythms played for dancing. Bass, saxophone and vibraphone join this family, in compositions conceived as games, varying grooves, timbres, dynamics, opening the way to improvisation.
