Born into a family of musicians, Mario Ponce-Enrile has been singing since the age of 4. He soon developed a passion for jazz, discovering the great names of the scene: Louis Armstrong, Jon Hendricks, Billy Strayhorn, Johnny Hartman, and above all Nat King Cole, who became his main source of inspiration.
With the “Straighten Up and Fly Right” project, Mario Ponce-Enrile, accompanied by Kim Baiunco on double bass, Alain Jean-Marie on piano, and Clément Trimouille on guitar, veers off the beaten track, exploring a lesser-known Nat King Cole repertoire.
The quartet revisits tunes from the first phase of Cole's career, when the famous crooner performed as a trio without drums, to revive the spirit of jazz from that era.
