On Thursday January 16, 2025, the ECUJE offers you an exceptional creation which will open the Confluences 2025 Festival, the fortnight of Mediterranean Jewish cultures. This unique concert by the Casbah Band, conducted by Jean-Claude Ghrenassia, revisits the great standards of North African music, notably chaâbi, through the universal language of jazz. Jean-Claude Ghrenassia's Casbah Band — Jeremy Hababou on piano, Hermon Mehari on trumpet, Patrick Goraguer on drums and himself on double bass — will reinterpret the works of emblematic figures like Maurice El Medioni, Lili Labassi, Lili Boniche and Sheikh Raymond Leyris. These artists left their mark on the Judeo-Arab musical scene of the 20th century and this ambitious project is inspired by their heritage to reinvent it in a dialogue between Mediterranean traditions and the rhythms of jazz. Confluences, festival under the sign of dialogue and cross-breeding.
The Confluences Festival is a flagship initiative of the ECUJE. It focuses on the meeting of musical, literary and artistic traditions of the Mediterranean basin and highlights the cultural mix of Jewish identities within Mediterranean cultures. This concert, by revisiting classics of Andalusian chaâbi music under a jazz prism, perfectly embodies the spirit of the festival: exploring bridges between cultures and opening new artistic horizons. Don't miss this exceptional evening which will bring together the richness of North African music with the modernity of jazz. A sound journey that will transport you from the shores of the Mediterranean to contemporary Parisian scenes. Reserve your tickets now for this unique concert and experience an intense moment of musical sharing at ECUJE.
