La Jam Du Dimanche De Ronan Ristord
#PlaceAuxJeunes HOMMAGE À JIM HALL
‘Sunday Jam’, a friendly gathering where musicians get together to improvise. This weekly session offers a relaxed atmosphere conducive to experimentation and spontaneous musical creation. A unique evening of music and sharing!
A disciple of the legendary Grégory Hutchinson, Ronan Ristord studied at Berklee College of Music. A popular sideman on the Paris jazz scene, he now performs as a leader. His music is rooted in swing and jazz standards, but never forgets the beauty of the art: improvisation!
Born on 4 December 1930 in Buffalo, New York, jazz guitarist Jim Hall is known for his elegant, lyrical playing style and his musical eclecticism. The discovery at the age of thirteen of a Benny Goodman 78 with guitarist Charlie Christian was a revelation, and the beginning of Jim Hall's interest in jazz. After a spell at the Cleveland Institute of Music, he decided in 1955 to devote himself to jazz and left Ohio for Los Angeles, where he studied classical guitar with Vicente Gomez. Shortly after his arrival, he was recruited by drummer Chico Hamilton, who formed a quintet with unusual instrumentation (including a cello) and developed a chamber music approach to jazz.
The success of this quintet led to Jim Hall recording his first trio album for Pacific Jazz. He also took part in a major session with pianist Hampton Hawes (All Night Session, 1956).
In 1960, his career took on an international dimension when Hall replaced Herb Ellis with singer Ella Fitzgerald.
After playing in the house band on the Merv Griffin Show on television, Jim Hall's career was marked above all by his duets with double bassists Ron Carter (Alone Together, 1972) and Red Mitchell, and the formation of a band with which the guitarist regularly toured his country, Europe and Japan, where his talent was now fully appreciated.
