La Jam Du Dimanche De Ronan Ristord
#PlaceAuxJeunes HOMMAGE À BUD POWELL
"Sunday Jam", a friendly meeting where musicians meet to improvise. This weekly session offers a relaxed atmosphere conducive to experimentation and spontaneous musical creation. A unique evening of music and sharing!
A disciple of the legend Gregory Hutchinson, Ronan Ristord attended Berklee College of Music. A highly regarded sideman on the Parisian jazz scene, he now performs as a leader. His music draws its roots from swing and jazz standards without ever neglecting what makes this art so beautiful: improvisation!
Bud Powell, born Earl Rudolph Powell on September 27, 1924 in Harlem, New York, is one of the most influential pianists in modern jazz. A pioneer of bebop on the piano, he played a key role in the transformation of jazz piano by adapting the innovations of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie.
Powell grew up in a rich musical environment and began playing in Harlem clubs as a teenager. His talent quickly brought him into contact with jazz giants like Thelonious Monk, who became a mentor to him. In the 1940s and 1950s, he recorded several iconic albums for Blue Note and Verve, including "The Amazing Bud Powell" and "Bud Powell in Paris," which are now considered bebop classics.
Despite a career marked by mental health issues and stints in psychiatric hospitals, Bud Powell continued to perform and record, leaving behind an immense musical legacy. His compositions like "Un Poco Loco" and "Bouncing with Bud" have become jazz standards. Powell died on July 31, 1966 in New York City, and remains a key figure for all jazz pianists, and his influence is still felt in contemporary jazz.
