Robin Verheyen Trio
LIFTOFF
Saxophonist Robin Verheyen joins forces with two heavyweights of the New York scene, bassist Drew Gress (John Zorn, Fred Hersch) and the legendary Billy Hart (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock).
The new trio album “Liftoff” is influenced by Wayne Shorter (1933-2023), with the dedicatory centerpiece “Saudades” and a rereading of “Over The Rainbow” as a reminder of Verheyen's mastery of the standard repertoire. .
At the age of 40, Verheyen is considered one of Europe's finest musicians and composers, known for his cross-genre contributions, such as the MiXMONK trio, several collaborations with the Goeyvaerts String Trio and the energetic band TaxiWars alongside dEUS leader Tom Barman.
The release of “Liftoff” accompanies Verheyen's return to Europe from New York, where he has lived and worked since 2007, and will be supported by a European tour, starting March 5, 2025.
