La Rhumerie

La Rhumerie, born as “La Rhumerie Martiniquaise”, was created in 1932 by Joseph Louville.

Joseph Louville bought an antique dealer at 166 boulevard Saint-Germain and inaugurated with his three sons Albert, Jules and Servulle: La Rhumerie Martiniquaise, which became La Rhumerie so as not to attribute the virtues of rum to just one island.

After the Second World War, Parisians rediscovered their city. Little by little, a festive, cultural and artistic atmosphere is settling in Saint Germain des Prés. The rising tide of existentialism is imposed on one side by literary cafes with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone De Beauvoir and on the other with the cellars where Greco, Mouloudji sang… and where the Jazz Men performed: Sidney Bechet, Claude Lutter and many others ...

La Rhumerie, a bar/brasserie dedicated to rum and West Indian specialties with a welcoming exotic atmosphere, in a decor of blond woods and rattan, still shares its destiny with new lovers of this eau-de-vie from distant islands.

Today, la Rhumerie is reviving the tradition of jazz in St Germain-des-Prés by offering jazz, swing, gypsy jazz, bop concerts on sunday and monday evenings...
